Courts get tough on copyright compilers

A decision by a court in Australia last week could make it harder for compilers of factual information to protect their work under copyright law.

In the Federal Court case Telstra Corporation v Phone Directories Company, Justice Gordon ruled that there was no copyright in Yellow and White Pages after Telstra and Sensis had accused the defendants of breaching their IP rights by reproducing entries in the two directories.
