Derivatives could be used to fund acquisitions of strategic stakes in India, which is planning to switch to physical settlement of equity derivatives. But Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules would mean only hedge funds could use the structure for now.

Higher regulatory capital requirements in Europe are pushing banks to use derivatives to fund acquisitions of strategic stakes this year.
